2014 Shot Show doesn't disappoint

We at Shotem and Caughtem just got back from the 2014 Shot Show and as always it did not disappoint.  As many who have made the trip, there is only so much wonderful merchandise one person can take in and talk about.  The show offers all gun and hunting lovers an unbelievable amount of things to drool over.  We had the opportunity to shake the hands of a couple of celebrities and even more great people from a lot of great companies.  Here are just a couple of the great products we had the chance to handle and learn about and are some of our favorites from the show.  If you had the opportunity to go let us know your favorites in the comment section below.

First, the Benelli Ethos.  For the hunter looking for a ultra sweet, light weight, auto shotgun for the field the new Ethos answers a bird hunters prayers. Though we mainly paid attention to the 12g model we were shocked by its overall light weight design matched with an overall gorgeous look helped us get excited about adding to our collection.  The action flowed nicely and construction looked to be able to with stand quite the beating.

Next is more for the hunter that likes to also make sure he or she is safe on the streets or in the home.  For the streets Glock has introduced the new Glock 42 380.  Due to the popularity in this round for a carry weapon Glock decided to pack its typical design to fit the caliber.  The best thing we found about this gun was that it kept Glock's reputation for simple yet rugged design with an easy tear down appeal we have not seen yet in a gun of this caliber.  For home defense we went over to the UTS booth to check out the impressive UTS-15 shotgun.  As the salesman said, if you can't get it done in fifteen shotgun rounds, you are officially at war in your home.

Lastly, we took a look at some of the new night vision optics from our friends at Bering Optics.  They seem to have quite a good grasp on what we hunters are looking for in our night vision optics.  It also does not hurt that the company is from one of the best places to hunt hogs at night Texas to help give them a great in the field testing platform.  We at Shotem and Caughtem might get the opportunity to go out and test some of their optics to give a more formal review which we could not be more excited for the possibility.

As always let us know about your favorite gear in the galleries and tell us your story.

We at ShotemandCaughtem this weekend went around to the several gun and ammunition retail stores around town to see if things had slowed down from the recent rush.  Unfortunately what we found is the days of going and grabbing a couple of boxes of ammo before going on our hunting trips might be over.  It was not long ago when a hunting season approached that we could run out that week, grab the necessary license and ammo, and then head out for our hunt.  After our outing this weekend further planning is definitely going to be needed.  With Spring Turkey season just around the corner, and pheasant and quail season ending in many parts of the country we thought we would look for the ammunition we might need.  However, what we found was that much of the ammo needed for a successful hunt is non existent on the shelves.  As a matter of fact one Walmart we went to only had a couple of boxes of 30-06, 270, 300 win, 7mm and a couple of 100 boxes of 20g and 12g target loads.  No other ammo was available.  This seemed to be the repeating pattern over many of the retailers we visited.  Only the most expensive ammo for the more unique calibers was left on the shelves.  In fact the 12g shells we need for our turkey hunts are gone.  We have decided to begin randomly visiting stores throughout the week to acquire the three or four boxes we need as a group to go on our turkey hunt.   Our season starts on April 10th here in Kansas.  We felt that our members needed to know that the recent rush on ammunition has not been limited to some calibers but all calibers.  We talked to many people across the country and they seem to have similar problems.  The need to grab a box or two of your necessary hunting ammo when you see it should be at the top of your priority list, even if the season is not here yet.  In fact we grabbed a couple of boxes of 30-06 and 7mm for deer season and a couple 100rd boxes of 20g and 12g 7 1/2 for dove season just in case the problem persists.  As different spring and summer hunting seasons begin to get close, many would be hunters will find their ammo of choice is unavailable.  This might also be the case this fall and winter.  So start planning for your favorite hunting seasons now so you can post your photos to Shotem and Caughtem.  As always let us know how things are in your neck of the woods.  You might even meet some people here in the Gear section that can help you out getting the things you need, so that they might get the things they need!

Day 3 at the Shot Show

Day 3 at the Las Vegas Shot Show seemed to be the day of celebrity appearances.  We at ShotemandCaughtem got to meet some of our fellow hunters and fisherman and we were not disappointed.  As seen in the photo we were pleasantly surprised to get to shake the hand of Jacob and Troy Landry (Swamp People).  We gave them some swag and even got them to crack a smile when I told them though it was not Chootem it was Shotem, we thought they would enjoy the website.  Willy Robertson from another one of our favorite shows Duck Commander was at the show as well.  Though our conversation was brief we hope he too will wear our shirt with pride as he and his family seem to love the great outdoors as much as ShotemandCaughtem.  Jim Shockey and his daughter also got some of our swag, we hope they too along with their clients, come to the site to show off some of their adventures from their guided hunts.  And finally we got to shake the hands of the men from The Bone Collector.  Micheal Waddell, Travis Turner and especially Nick Mundt seemed excited to come and visit the site to brag about their trials and tribulations.  Even though we did not get the opportunity to introduce ourselves to Ted Nuggent we hope that he too comes to share his glory.  We are still trying to update ourselves on the great products we saw at the Shot Show so stay tuned for some great product reviews.

Day 2 2013 Shot Show

Day 2 at the Las Vegas Shot Show was just as amazing as the first.  All we can say is that we did not realize there was some much that went into this industry.  The host of different products has created quite a vast array of things to choose from.  Whether you have a taste for the plain or the exotic it is all present.  We took this photo just to give you a taste of what the show looks like and this is merely a small corner of what is here.  We have grabbed a pile of brochures and literature and once we get a chance to sort through it all we will inform you as to what we took away as highlights from the show.  If you have any pressing questions please don't hesitate to contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Shotem and Caughtem at the 2013 Shot Show

Well its the first time we at Shotem and Caughtem have invaded the Shot Show which started today.  We can honestly say we are speechless and exhausted.  What a community.  The entire industry seems to have some kind of a presence here.  We are lucky that we have spent much of our disposable income trying to make this website.  There are more things here we would love to own than we could ever afford.  A veritable gold mine of all things gun related is the best way we can describe the show.  We have met some great people and seen some awesome products already in the first day and can't wait to meet and see even more tomorrow.  As of right now the list is too long to mention even some of the great products we have already seen here at the show.  If you have never attended this convention and have a love for hunting, guns, etal, like we do, we highly recommend wearing some comfortable shoes and please make sure you prepare your eyes and mind for an overload.  Come back to the site often as we have already a massed a substantial amount of products we can't wait to share with you.  For more information on the Shot Show visit www.shotshow.org.
